Kayaking & Rafting

Del Norte County is blessed with two magnificent rivers, the famous Klamath and Smith River. Both have rafting and kayaking available, although, the Smith River is the better known river for rafting and kayaking. Whether rafting or kayaking the Smith, the main body of the Smith River, below the confluence of the Middle Fork and South Fork is an easy class 2 run, easing through redwood forests and lots of nature. Smith River has three forks, the north fork, the middle fork and the south fork. Each fork of the Smith River has good to excellent rafting and kayaking at different water heights. In the summer and fall, Smith River rafting or kayaking in rubber rafts or kayaks is easy and fun. Hard shell kayaks and decent rafts are perfect for Smith River rafting or kayaking when the river is up and running. For a great description of Smith River rafting and kayaking the North Fork of the Smith see http://www.kevsmom.com/smithriver/north/wilderness/.
